Workt 5mm Knee Sleeve ReviewAn in-depth look at what makes these sleeve tick
UPDATE: Workt has just released a new version of these sleeves. I have not tried these new ones, however, I have heard reports that they are quite similar to it’s older version. The main difference is in the colors and slight stitching difference. The pictures in this article have been updated to show the new model, even though the original review was done on the older version.
Workt knee sleeves come in 2 sizes, 5mm and 7mm. In this review, we are going to be covering the 5mm workt knee sleeves only. By running comparisons against other sleeves on the market, we are going to gain a much clearer idea of how these perform in the gym.
Knee sleeves are considered gym bag essentials and it is pretty natural for serious athletes/enthusiasts to invest in a good pair.
Many people grab the cheapest pair of sleeves they can get their hands on, only to end up with tattered sleeves in months. Others reach for the most expensive pair in the hopes of nailing a durable one, but they still don’t live up to the standards.
The best gauge is really not the price but other people’s experience. This is why Workt 5mm neoprene knee compression support sleeves are a bit different:
The legendary Chris Spealler, for those who aren’t familiar, was a top 5 finisher at the first CrossFit games in 2007 and a top 10 finisher in the 2008 and 2010 games. He is a household name when it comes to Crossfit, so his word holds a lot of weight.
Spealler is not just an endorser of Workt. He’s also involved in its development. He’s been an integral part in the research and development – from the lab to the ads. As a seasoned athlete, he knows what other athletes need the most from a knee sleeve – comfortable, durable and effective in providing compression and support.
His name and signature are etched at the back of the each sleeve:
With that said, let’s evaluate Workt’s 5mm neoprene compression knee support mainly based on those attributes.
Comfort: Right Size, Ample Warmth, Stays in Place
The 5mm neoprene sleeves range from extra small to extra large. Here are the sizes:
- X-Small: 31-33 cm (12 – 13 inches)
- Small: 33-35 cm (13 – 14 inches)
- Medium: 35-37 cm (14 – 15 inches)
- Large: 37-40 cm (15 – 16 inches)
- X-Large: 40-43 cm (16-17 inches)
The knee sleeves hug the knee caps comfortably without restricting blood circulation. The sport-specific neoprene keeps the knees warm and lubricated throughout the entire use, but it doesn’t emit a strong stench even when soaked in sweat afterwards. Another plus with the material is that, it doesn’t itch or cause allergies.
The contoured design of the knee sleeves also translates to maximum comfort when worn. Its heavy-duty stitching and anti-slip feature ensure that the knee sleeves stay in place.
Users also positively reported the absence of bunching at the back of the knee, which happens to a lot of knee sleeves during extended use. The bunching can get a tad painful and uncomfortable during lifting. Fortunately, it doesn’t happen with Workt.
Durability: Heavy-Duty Stitching Visible
Not only is the stitching visible, it is also attractive. It comes in black, blue, green, red and pink. That aside, the combination of secure stitching and high-quality neoprene really make for a durable knee sleeve that does not fray or fall apart even when used frequently.
Here are the Available colors:
When experienced CrossFitters compare its durability to that of Rehband’s or Rockport’s (both very popular and high-quality brands), Workt must be doing something right with their production.
Compression: Satisfactory is an understatement
Aside from keeping the knees warm, Workt knee sleeves do a good job in keeping knee pain and swelling at bay. Unlike Workt’s 7mm sleeve, the 5mm works perfectly fine for daily (not-so-heavy leg days) compression, stability and support.
You can even expect a “little spring” upon recovering from your squats when using Workt. Since it’s only 5mm, you can also use it for purposes outside lifting if you’re comfortable with the thought.
How does it differ from its more popular counterparts?
The most comparable counterpart of Workt 5mm would be the Rehband 7751, which is also of the same thickness. Workt will only cost you $34.95 per sleeve while 7751 sells at $36.95 per sleeve. Two dollars people! Realistically, you are probably paying a premium on the Rehband brand more than anything.

If the performance is just as good, why not go for the cheaper alternative? You’ll pay two dollars less to protect your knees. That’s more than a good deal.
Some Helpful User Reviews
I have scoured the web looking for some negative reviews and have come up short. I can only find positive reviews! Here are some of the more helpful ones I found:
Bought this as my second pair. My first lasted about 8 months of using them in pretty much every wod about 5-6 days a week. They didn’t really lose much compression throughout that time period until not started to tear. But I believe the tear happened from my washing machine not from normal wear. I’ve had the rehband 5mm sleeves and those didn’t last very long before they became loose.
I’ve tried several types of knee sleeves for crossfit. These are the only ones that have held up. I’ve had these for a year now and still work just as well as the day I got them. Highly recommended!!
Sorry guys, no video reviews this time. I couldn’t find any! I may end up doing one myself because I will need a new pair pretty soon and would like to try something a little more for general use. Will update this post if and when I do so.
Some Closing words
It’s so easy to drown in a sea of knee sleeves these days, with so many brands coming out with their own line of knee sleeves. Some are good, some are sub-par, while others simply disappoint. With these, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
If you are doing CrossFit and are looking for an awesome all-rounder knee sleeve you can wear at any session, 5mm Workt knee sleeves are the perfect solution for you.
